Updates from Atreya - Feb 2020

Namaskar!
It is many years since I sent out a newsletter. Many things have changed over the years and I would like to tell you about some of these changes.

The first point is that I have removed myself from all social media because I do not like their politics and use of our personal data. I also see the damage that social media does to my patients when they spend too many hours each day on screens.

The second point is that our school has gone through a major rejuvenation this year and is now offering a training in Ayurvedic Medicine of 3190 hours over 4 years. There is a new profession as an Ayurvedic naturopathic doctor in Switzerland and it is certified with a Federal Diploma. This allows the Ayurvedic naturopathic doctor full integration into the national health system. In other words, Ayurveda has been legalized in Switzerland. We have started the certification process to be an accredited school for Ayurvedic medicine. The Federal Diploma also requires an additional 3000 hours of study in modern medicine to fulfill all requirements. See the program on our new website: www.eivs.org

The third point is that for all of you living outside of Switzerland it is still possible to study online with me and go to India for clinical studies with Dr Joshi. We have improved all of our programs and updated them. See the bottom of the homepage here: www.eivs.org

The fourth point is that we are offering two workshops in Lausanne each year that are open to all students of Atreya. This year there is an advanced diagnostic training (Vikriti Pariksha) on the 23 - 24 May 2020. The first day will review all forms of diagnosis (tongue, pulse, etc.) and the second day will show how to use this data to form a treatment plan for the patient. This is a new workshop developed by Vaidya Atreya Smith to help his students practice Ayurvedic medicine. It is a required module for the Swiss Federal Diploma.

From the 28 - 29 November 2020 there is a very special program on Vikriti Vijnana (pathology). In this course, Vaidya Atreya uses the Caraka Samhita to explore different pathologies created by the three Dosha, Vata, Pitta, Kapha. Usually there are 5 to 8 causes of illness (Nidana Roga) that manifest themselves differently for each person. This is an advanced program that is very useful for students studying Dravyaguna. It explains how to understand the pathology in a way that clarifies which medicinal plants to use in treatment, and if the practitioner should treat the structure or function. It is a required module for the Swiss Federal Diploma. Both of these programs can be seen here: https://www.eivs.org/Additional-program-information.html

The fifth point is that Marie-Angele and Linda are still teaching our three-year massage program for therapists. This course is considered to be the best in France and we have been teaching it for 20 years now. Details can be seen here: http://www.atreya.com/ayurveda/Massage-Therapeutique-en-Ayurveda.html

We are also continuing to teach Jyotish (Vedic astrology) online and hope to finish the development of the level 2 in 2021. The research and development of the level 2 has been slowed by the restructuration of the Ayurvedic medicine program. Details on the Jyotish program can be seen here: http://www.atreya.com/ayurveda/Jyotish-Cours-d-Astrologie-Vedique,30.html

The sixth point is that my textbook on treating over 200 disorders with diet and herbs will be published in French this summer. Check atreya.com for details on the release of this practical manual. There are also an additional twenty-one new herbal monographs in this book.

The last point is that Atreya is still seeing patients in Lausanne. This last year has been complicated due to the extra work for the school. Beginning in September he will be seeing patients almost every Thursday. Check the internet for dates and times here: https://www.eivs-shop.com/shop/index.php?id_category=114&controller=category&id_lang=2

Finally, be aware that having your Doshas in balance and no Ama in your body is the best prevention from flu or other virus. With the possible spread of the Coronavirus this is even more important. There are many good natural antiviral herbs in Europe such as: Echinacea angustifolia, Erythraea centaurium, Gentiana lutea, Glycyrrhiza glabra, Hypericum perforatum, Sylibum marianum, and Thymus vulgaris. Also, the Brazilian bark of Tabebuia impetiginosa is an excellent antiviral herb. The method of using these herbs is explained in my textbook “Dravyaguna for Westerners”. Prevention is the best medicine. Stay healthy and happy!

“Seeing the entire universe in the Self and the Self as the entire universe gives rise to true knowledge. On seeing the entire universe in our own Self, one realizes the truth that the individual self alone is responsible for happiness or misery (duality). The individual self is compelled by different causes to action (karma), yet after realizing our true identity as the universal Self we attain Liberation from the wrong identity.”
