Corona Virus & Jyotish - 8 March 2020

These are some observations with dates concerning the Corona virus (COVID-19). As all Jyotisha know epidemics and pandemics are the work of the Nodes, Rahu and Ketu. This is a possible scenario based on my observations.

(note from 24 March: the astrology is actually quite complex for the beginning of this event and there are many different points of view. I am just focusing on the role of the Nakshatras here which is a very traditional method. This article is not meant to be a full analyze of the whole pandemic.)

Rahu and Ketu moved into Gemini and Sagittarius respectively on the 24 March 2019.

Nakshatras are Lunar constellations of 13°20 which are used in Jyotish to understand the timing of any event. Nakshatras “sit” within the twelve normal signs of the zodiac. The critical Nakshatras for the Corona virus are Ardra and Mula and Purva Ashadha.

We can understand that the Corona virus (COVID-19) was taking form in October and November but did not spread until after the 21 Nov 2019 due to Jupiter (see below). This is mainly due to the malefic planet Rahu being in the terrifying Nakshatra of Ardra ruled by Rudra who causes (and cures) fevers. Rahu also rules Ardra so is double strong to cause problems in this location.

28 Sept 2019 Rahu enters Ardra Nakshatra

On the 24 April 2019 Ketu entered Purva Ashadha Nakshatra. This is a Nakshatra of abundance and ruled by the water goddess Apas which allows the spreading of anything, good or bad in abundance.

12 Feb 2020 Ketu enters Mula Nakshatra
13 Feb 2020 was the day that the greatest number of new cases was reported, over 15,000.

When Ketu entered Mula Nakshatra things blew up and spread dramatically as Mula is the void ruled by the goddess of death Nirriti. Mula Nakshatra is a very difficult place in the best of times and is ruled by Ketu which makes him very powerful to cause problems here. Mula is opposite Ardra Nakshatra where Rahu is the ruler and currently is located. These two malefic planets are opposite each other in Ardra and Mula causing the Corona virus to spread around the world.

22 April 2020 Rahu enters Mrigashira Nakshatra ruled by the god Soma (nectar of immortality). This is a healing Nakshatra and Rahu stays here until the 12 Feb 2021.

20 Sept 2020 Rahu and Ketu leave Gemini and Sagittarius. Ketu will leave Mula Nakshatra.

The role of Mercury as the ruler of Gemini:
Mercury rules the intellect / communications and entered Mula Nakshatra and Sagittarius on the 26 Dec 2019 bringing the total to six major planets in Sagittarius. Mercury moved out of Sagittarius on the 13 Jan 2020. During this period from 26 Dec to 13 Jan 2020 Mercury allowed media misinformation and wrong reports to develop which have continued until March 2020. This was due to the conjunction of six planets in Sagittarius combined with Mercury passing through Mula and Purva Ashadha Nakshatras.

The role of Jupiter as an expansive, global energy:
22 Nov 2007 Jupiter enters Sagittarius and left Sagittarius on the 10 Dec 2008. Economic crash - The stock market crash of 2008 occurred on Sept. 29, 2008 when Jupiter was in Purva Ashadha Nakshatra.

Jupiter enters Sagittarius 05 Nov 2019, but is weak until the 21 Nov 2019 on which date Venus also enters Sagittarius bringing the total to five planets conjunct in Sagittarius. On the 04 Jan 2020 Jupiter moves into Purva Ashadha Nakshatra having been in Mula Nakshatra since 05 Nov 2020. On the 08 Mar 2020 Jupiter moves into Uttar Ashadha Nakshatra which will slowly reduce the expansion of the Corona virus. Things will seem to be much better globally from the 30 Mar 2020 when Jupiter moves into Capricorn. Unfortunately, Jupiter goes into a retrograde movement (backwards) from the 14 May 2020 and re-enters Sagittarius on the 30 June 2020.

This could manifest in two different ways:
1) diffusion of a cure (vaccine) around the world peaking around the 26 July 2020 when Jupiter moves back into Purva Ashadha Nakshatra.

2) the pandemic will flare up again and peak from the 26 July 2020 when Jupiter moves back into Purva Ashadha Nakshatra.

Jupiter returns to Uttar Ashadha Nakshatra on the 30 October, and to Capricorn on 20 Nov 2020.

Basically, the Corona virus has been developing from late September 2019 and stayed dormant until the 21 Nov 2019 on which date it began to spread in China. Due to Mercury the developments of the virus were not made public. This is also due the fact that were not quickly and easily identified due to Rahu and Ketu who cloud the cause of any disease.

Things will seem to be much better globally from 30 Mar 2020, but not really change until after the 22 April 2020. The positive side will be that from the 22 April 2020 Rahu will move out of Ardra and into Mrigashira Nakshatra which will allow a cure to develop. Most likely a new concept for a vaccine / treatment will appear in late April or early May giving a lot of hope for a cure. From this time it possible that a cure is being defused by Jupiter. Or, from 14 May 2020 the pandemic will slowly get worse until peaking again after the 26 July 2020. We can understand this to be a mutation of the virus and a second major wave of infections that may be worse in some places than other.

Things should slowly improve from August into September, possible due to strict isolation and controls. After the 20 Sept 2020 we can expect the cure to be manufactured globally and spread around. October will be a month that shows improvements with more people getting treatment and cured. By November 2020 the health of the world should be stable.

The economy should also suffer during these same time periods and begin to recover from October / November 2020 as the global population recovers and restrictions are relaxed.

A note about fear. When all planets are in-between Rahu and Ketu it creates a Kala Sarpa Yoga. This increases whatever is happening in the world. In our present situation it is increasing fear or total denial of the situation. These two polarities of fear or denial represent the extremes of Rahu / Ketu. From the 17 to 30 March it will go through another wave of increased panic / fear in the public. Then calm down until the 13 April, another wave of fear until the 28 April. Calm from 29 April to 9 May. Again, a wave of fear will manifest from the 10 to 24 May after which the yoga, or combination of planets is broken. From the 25 May the public should be adapted to the situation and be able to control the fear or denial generated by the virus.

Ayurveda understands that having your Doshas in balance and no Ama in your body is the best prevention from flu or other virus. With the possible spread of the Corona virus this is even more important. There are many good natural antiviral herbs in Europe / North America such as: Echinacea angustifolia, Erythraea centaurium, Gentiana lutea, Glycyrrhiza glabra, Hypericum perforatum, Sylibum marianum, and Thymus vulgaris. Also, the Brazilian bark of Tabebuia impetiginosa is an excellent antiviral herb. The method of using these herbs is explained in my textbook “Dravyaguna for Westerners”. Prevention is the best medicine. If you do not know what this information means please see an Ayurvedic practitioner near you for support.

“Seeing the entire universe in the Self and the Self as the entire universe gives rise to true knowledge. On seeing the entire universe in our own Self, one realizes the truth that the individual self alone is responsible for happiness or misery (duality). The individual self is compelled by different causes to action (karma), yet after realizing our true identity as the universal Self we attain Liberation from the wrong identity.”
Caraka Samhita, Sarirasthanam, 5.7

Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra

ॐ त्र्यम्बकं यजामहे सुगन्धिं पुष्टिवर्धनम् |

उर्वारुकमिव बन्धनान्मृत्योर्मुक्षीय माऽमृतात् ||

Aum Tryambakam yajaamahe sugandhim pushtivardhanam |
Urvaarukamiva bandhanaan-mrityormuksheeya maamritaat ||

"We worship the three-eyed One (Shiva),
who is fragrant as pure Self and who nourishes all,
Like the fruit falls off the stem of bondage (Samsara),
May I be liberated from death, so that I am not separated from the immortal Self."

This is the Mantra for Rudra and treating fever and contagious disease as well as liberation. Traditionally a mala (string of beads) is used with 108 beads. One repetition of the mala is 108 times the mantra. It is traditionally repeated 108 times at sunrise and sunset. This mantra can be used to prevent disease or cure fevers.
