Many women in late 30's or early 40's want to have a first or another child and are confronted with Multiple miscarriages. In this article we are going to look at the problems and solutions.
What is the problem? The first thing to understand is that if the body is rejecting the fetus there is a reason. So the first thing to do is find out what is wrong with yourself. The list is pretty long, so let's start with obvious stuff:
1. stress or emotional, nervous fatigue, burn out, etc. All (…)

I have successfully treated a number of patients for Lyme disease over the last twenty years.
Lyme disease is transmitted by the Tick, an ectoparasite (external parasite). In Europe the bacteria Borrelia afzelii and Borrelia garinii are causes of Lyme disease. The tick needs to be in the body for 36 to 48 hours before the bacteria can spread and cause the disease. The best treatment is to remove the tick from the body. There is an old trick that hunters use in the USA to prevent infection (…)

Dear Atreya, i've been reading your books, and trying to get a better grasp of the concept of Doshas. You give a good example of them being "managers" of the whole body system. This thus suggests them being sort of a process. In the website you mentioned Dr. Rama Jayasundar, i read her articles and she explains Doshas from a "functional" perspective of movement. transformation, and stability.
Further in the Pathology volume a disease is explained as Doshas being mixed with Ama and Mala. (…)

Question: Hi Atreya, I have been meaning to ask you this question for some time. What are your thoughts on smoothies. Could you use them if you only put a few ingredients in them that might be useful for the person concerned. Do they affect the Agni? Would it be better to add ginger or other warming spices for Vata and even possibly adding oil or even just warming up the whole drink? My take on it is that it is not how we were meant to eat this food but many people seem to feel well on them. (…)

Shingles is a painful skin rash. It is caused by the varicella zoster virus. It is also called herpes zoster.
Shingles usually appears in a band, a strip, or a small area on one side of the face or body. The rash usually heals within two to four weeks although some people develop nerve pain that last much longer. It is common for Shingles to reoccur. This is a Pitta Roga problem cause by a viral pathogen. These herbs work to reduce inflammation and to support the immune system that will (…)

An Ama reducing diet is often needed before proceeding with a long term nutritional program, or with rejuvenation therapies. It is indicated whenever there is a covering on the tongue or the stool sinks and/or has a strong smell. Remember the main indication of Ama is chronic fatigue. There are other signs of Ama accumulation - review the section on diagnosis and Agni. There are also contraindications for a strongly reducing diet (detoxifying diet).
This type of diet should NOT be given (…)

Question: What causes the gums to recede?
The teeth are the Upadhatu (sub-tissue) of Asthi Dhatu in Ayurveda.
The gums recede because of the bone tissue. When the jaw bone tissue (Asthi) starts to reduce in volume the gums follow the reducing bone structure.
The gums are part Pitta function and relate to both Rasa & Rakta Dhatus - so these dhatus need to be supported. Pachaka Pitta in the small intestine is directly related the health of the gums and mouth.

In order to define what nourishment is according to ?yurveda we need to understand the context of ?yurveda as both a medical system and world vision. ?yurveda is based on the concept that the universe and everything manifested within it is intelligent. This idea is fundamentally different than the current accepted scientific view that prefers to divide and separate living entities into pieces in order to understand them, which in effect, kills any intelligent principle within the entity.
Pancha Karma is a collective term for strong purification therapies. These therapies fall under the classification of Shodhana therapies, those therapies which are strongly reducing. For a full explanation of what is Pancha Karma please see the article on that subject.
Post Pancha Karma Trauma is what the patient experiences after undergoing a Pancha Karma that has not been done correctly. When a Pancha Karma has been done properly the patient typically experiences a period of fatigue (…)

Ayurveda is the oldest continually practiced medical system in the world. Ayurveda is a Sanskrit word from India which is generally translated as the 'science of life' indicating that it is a mind/body or holistic health system. Historically it has contributed to the development of Chinese, Persian and Greek medical traditions. Even modern medicine has been strongly influenced by the Ayurvedic system through the development of surgical practices that are still used today. For many years the (…)
