In Ayurveda Panchakarma is the most misunderstood therapy. It is perhaps the most misunderstood clinical practice in the world today for any form of medicine. There are also a number of therapeutic practices in Ayurveda that are either grouped together under the term “panchakarma” or other therapies are incorrectly labeled “panchakarma” through ignorance or for marketing reasons.

This conference is an exceptional opportunity to discover the traditional description of the collective purification therapies, collectively called Panchakarma, of Ayurveda. This seminar will be given by one of the world’s leading experts in Panchakarma, Dr Sunil V. Joshi. He has been running a clinic in India since 1985 that is completely devoted to the oldest thesis of Ayurveda, the Caraka Samhita. This text gives clear and concise directions on how purification therapies should be performed. Dr Joshi is world famous for his results in curing degenerative nervous disorders such as epilepsy, paralysis and others. Dr Joshi attributes his success to the Caraka Samhita and his Ayurvedic guru who taught him the clinical procedures he uses today.

This is an exceptional opportunity to participate in a seminar with a world renown clinical expert on Ayurveda. Dr Joshi will begin the weekend with his personal journey on how he came to study Ayurveda and how he met his guru. He will explain the basis of Shodhana, or purification therapies, according to Ayurveda and how they complement the other eight main branches of Ayurveda. On the second day Dr Joshi will begin a detailed description of Panchakarma as is explained in his best selling book Ayurveda and Panchakarma. This second day will explain Panchakarma therapies as they have been passed on in the Caraka Samhita. Dr Joshi will also explain the differences in Kerala Panchakarma from the real, traditional Panchakarma of Caraka. In Kerala most of what is called Panchakarma is little more than wellness therapies to relax unsuspecting tourists.

This will be an invaluable occasion in which to discover the purification science of Ayurveda. Participants will be able to decide if these therapies are suited for them and if they will be able to benefit from the rejuvenation therapies that follow purification. The astonishing capacity of Ayurveda to rejuvenate the body and mind can only be accomplished by first doing Panchakarma. Dr Joshi will lead participants through the maze of therapies that make up traditional Ayurveda as expounded by the Caraka Samhita.

Dr Sunil V. Joshi has completed his MD in Ayurveda (specialty studies of two years) in the clinical application of Panchakarma. In order to pass this diploma he needed to memorize completely the Caraka Samhita, the Susruta Samhita and the Astanga Hrdayam, which is almost 25,000 verses of Sanskrit. He is the director of Panchakarma clinics in the USA and India since 1985 and is one of the most famous doctors of Ayurveda alive today. His best selling book, Ayurveda & Panchakarma, first published in 1996, is the reference in the field of clinical studies for Ayurvedic students. He is the director of clinical studies for the European Institute of Vedic Studies, France.
